سود سوزآور یا کاستیک یکی از مواد پایه و استراتژیک صنایع شیمیایی است که به‌صورت جامد یا محلول در آب (کاستیک مایع) عرضه می‌شود. این ماده به‌دلیل خاصیت قلیایی بسیار بالا، در بسیاری از فرآیندهای صنعتی از جمله تولید مواد شیمیایی، تصفیه، شست‌وشو و کنترل اسیدها به کار می‌رود. کاستیک از طریق فرآیند الکترولیز محلول نمک طعام (NaCl) به دست می‌آید و در زمره محصولات حیاتی پتروشیمی‌ها قرار دارد.
